Need money? Got a hobby? You may just be able to turn your passion into
cash. The possibilities are almost endless and the income potential is
limited only by your desire. Below are just a few examples of the
numerous hobbies that can bring in the cash.
Arts and Crafts
If you have a knack for creating “treasures”, you have a hobby that
makes money. Sewing, candle making, knitting, jewelry making and
woodworking are a just a few hobbies that are often used to make money.
Selling handcrafted wares at weekend markets, online or at local
boutiques and consignment stores are often the most preferred methods
for craftspeople.
Collecting
Stamps, posters, baseball cards, celebrity memorabilia, antiques…
collectors world wide invest money in goods they hope will increase in
value over time. Although timing the sale of collectables for maximum
profit is a guessing game, there is still plenty of money to be made in
selling collections of almost any sort.
Outdoor Adventurers
If hunting or fishing is your hobby, leading expeditions is a great way
to enjoy your hobby while making money at the same time.
Writing
For those who enjoy exercising their creativity through the written
word, writing can bring in anything from pocket change to a full-time
salary. The days of query letters - and the subsequent rejection
letters that all to often follow - are almost a thing of the past.
Thanks to the internet, writers (hobbyists and professionals alike) can
earn residual income from writing for profit-sharing sites or
ghostwriting for blogs and web portals.
Teaching
OK, teaching may not be a hobby for most, but educating others on the
ends and outs of your specific hobby offers a wonderful way to earn
cash. Teaching belly dancing at a community center, or drawing/painting
at a local art store are but a few examples.
Adults Get Crafty!
26.09.2009.
Crafts aren't just for kids anymore! Doing crafts as an adult is
relaxing and rewarding. Crafts are relaxing because while you are
involved in them, your mind is free from thinking about day-to-day
problems and stresses. Crafts are rewarding because when you're done,
you have something tangible that you can hold on to.
There are lots of craft ideas for adults. There are the traditional
ones like knitting and crocheting. These are good crafts because they
are portable. You can take your project with you and work on it while
waiting at the doctor's office, for example. Another popular craft is
scrapbooking. Scrapbooking is great, not only because you can really
get creative when putting one together, but you have a valuable
keepsake that can be passed on for generations.
Decoupage is another craft that many adults enjoy. It's fun to find
some discarded item at a yard sale, like a chair or picture frame or
small wooden box and transform them into lovely pieces through
decoupage. The possibilities are endless. You can use old maps,
canceled stamps, photographs, and even pretty paper napkins in
decoupage. Make color copies of these items if you don't want to damage
your originals. Clean clay pots are also ideal for decoupage. These
make great gifts when you add a nice plant to complete the project.
Another fun craft is working with sea shells. You can jazz up a plain
framed mirror by gluing shells around the frame. Once you've glued all
the shells, paint over them with a sealant to make the shells shine and
to bring out their luster. You can also decorate wastebaskets, lamp
shades, and other household items with shells. Just look around you
house and use your imagination!
Take a Chance With Raffles
If you are a fan of gambling but not a fan of losing money, then
raffle tickets may be for you. A raffle is an event that is held --
many times as a fundraiser -- in which tickets are sold for the chance
to win prizes in a drawing. Raffles tend to be very cheap to enter,
sometimes as low as a dollar per ticket. They are also very simple to
play. Merely buy a ticket, wait for the drawing, and see if you win.
People who buy raffle tickets often as a hobby usually have a large
collection of interesting novelty items and knick knacks. Most who have
played often enough have won at least one grand prize or two in their
lives.
Many charities throw raffles to gain funds, as it can be a very
effective manner of gaining them funds. Many schools and non-profit
organizations offer prizes such as gift cards, video game consoles, and
televisions. Or, some charities might offer pies or cakes made by hand.
Whatever it is they offer, you can take joy in participating by buying
raffle tickets. Some charities even use custom raffle ticket printing,
meaning you can save the raffle tickets as a fun souvenir to recount
your participation in funding a good cause.
Of course, raffles are offered by more than charities. Other businesses
have for-profit raffles. Many casinos offer raffles, for example. These
raffles typically offer much more expensive items, sometimes even cars,
as prizes. Such drawings typically attract much greater competition.
While this does lower your odds, it also increases your potential
winnings. Furthermore, many casinos offer free raffle tickets to loyal
players or to those who have signed up for special casino offers. This
is because raffle ticket printing is very cheap for casinos.
Playing raffles can be a fun and inexpensive hobby. As an added bonus,
you just might win!
Build a mouse trap car
A mouse trap car is a small car built with a normal mouse trap and the use of one's own trap energy. It is quite easy to make a mouse trap car from the beginning and the necessary materials are readily available so here is a guide to build a mouse trap car on his own.
Tools Needed:
Pliers
Drill
Saw (optional)
Scissors
Materials needed
A mousetrap
4 eyehooks
6 balloons and rubber bands
Epoxy
2 pens bic / metal rods (shafts)
2 lids pop / 2 washers
Chain
4 CDs / DVDs / plywood (wheels)
Instructions
First drill two tiny holes on either side of the mouse trap and tighten the 4 eyehooks them.
For the wheels you can use 4 CDs / DVDs or you can cut 4 circles of plywood with a saw. If you use CDs / DVDs, cut the top and bottom of two of the balloons with a pair of scissors and pull the center section over the rim of the CDs they used to glue the rear wheels for better grip. You can still do this if you are using plywood, however, this is not a necessity.
If you use the feathers to their axles, remove the top and bottom of the pen leaving only the empty barrel. The eyehooks you should adhere strictly to the pens or metal rods if you use them in place. There should be as close however, that the shaft can not rotate easily.
Create a hole in the center of a section of the axes, large enough to run through the chain. Run the string through the hole in the shaft and out one end of the shaft. Create a knot at the end of the yarn is pulled one end of the shaft and tie it to something small and then pull it into the barrel axis so that the knot is inside the barrel (this is your rear axle).
Then put the front axle through eyehooks in front of the trap (the side opposite to where the bait holder) and the use of pliers to tighten the tops can pop or washers on the shaft to stop axis to move too much or slide sideways. See the washers are not brushing the eyehooks or wheels will not turn properly. Go ahead and also put in its rear axle.
You can use epoxy to attach the wheels to the axles or may involve a balloon or some similar type of rubber around the shaft and slowly push the wheels are using it. The rubber balloons or function as a wedge and prevent the wheels from wobbling while the car is traveling.
Now for the movement of the car and tighten the chain on the rear axle to the center of the jaws of the trap (the U shaped piece that really fits into the mouse) and lift the chin back as if you are setting the trap. Keep strong jaws in this position and reverse the car until the excess cord is completely wrapped around the rear axle, place the trap as if to catch a mouse and the care of a mouse trap to go.
Setting down and use something to release the trap and look to go!
Tips & Warnings
Make eyehooks as level as possible so that the shaft is not twisted when we put it through the hooks.
Remember to put rubber wheels on the rear of the car, not the front.
Be careful to keep your hands away from the jaws when configuring the trap due to
negligence can be quite unbearable.
