Adults Get Crafty!
Crafts aren’t just for kids anymore! Doing crafts as an adult is relaxing and rewarding. Crafts are relaxing because while you are involved in them, your mind is free from thinking about day-to-day problems and stresses. Crafts are rewarding because when you’re done, you have something tangible that you can hold on to.
There are lots of craft ideas for adults. There are the traditional ones like knitting and crocheting. These are good crafts because they are portable. You can take your project with you and work on it while waiting at the doctor’s office, for example. Another popular craft is scrapbooking. Scrapbooking is great, not only because you can really get creative when putting one together, but you have a valuable keepsake that can be passed on for generations.
Decoupage is another craft that many adults enjoy. It’s fun to find some discarded item at a yard sale, like a chair or picture frame or small wooden box and transform them into lovely pieces through decoupage. The possibilities are endless. You can use old maps, canceled stamps, photographs, and even pretty paper napkins in decoupage. Make color copies of these items if you don’t want to damage your originals. Clean clay pots are also ideal for decoupage. These make great gifts when you add a nice plant to complete the project.
Another fun craft is working with sea shells. You can jazz up a plain framed mirror by gluing shells around the frame. Once you’ve glued all the shells, paint over them with a sealant to make the shells shine and to bring out their luster. You can also decorate wastebaskets, lamp shades, and other household items with shells. Just look around you house and use your imagination!
